Guided Tour Ruhr 26 Gasometer Oberhausen
Enjoy the superb view from nearly 120m above ground-level on top of the Gasometer Oberhausen. But the sight is by no means all the "Pantheon of industrial culture" has to offer.
The Gasometer Oberhausen (erected in 1929) is Europe's highest plate gas container. After the shutdown 1988 the discussion began what to do with the former gas storage. At the beginning of the 1990's the "Internationale Bauausstellung Emscher Park" suggested to turn the Gasometer into the world's most unusual exhibition hall.
Since the renovation (1993-94) the Gasometer Oberhausen is an extraordinary location for events and conferences. Inside the Gasometer welcomes guests with an magnificient environment. The dark and semi gloss walls, the special steel structure and the octuple echo turn the 80-years old building into an "industrial cathedral". Millions of people visited the exhibitions in Europe's tallest exhibition hall (Guinness book of records).
By the way - to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the Western Ruhr Area from the roof You don't have to walk up all 592 stairs. It's also accessible by two elevators, a glass elevator inside or a normal one outside.
