Ruhr District Tour 3 Steel and port
Day and night tours through Duisburg's industrial past and present
The Rhine and the steel industry really influenced the development of Duisburg and are also the main subjects on that tour.
It starts with a guided tour in the unique Landscape Park Duisburg-North. A former Thyssen-owned iron works is now an open industrial monument. Blast furnace no. 5 is the right spot to become acquainted with the production of pig iron or after ascending to enjoy the panorama of the western Ruhr area - if the weather is fine.
After that the boat trip through the gigantic Duisburg International Inland Port will bring you close to sea-going river vessels, container terminals, huge cranes and warehouses. On board our tour guide will present you data, facts and stories about the world's largest inland port on the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers.
But you have the choise: Do you prefer a close examination of the industrial scenery with all details? Then select a daylight tour. A night tour has different things to offer - a special atmosphere and a very fine illumination of the old iron works.
