Ruhr District Tour 5 Krupp, coal and beer
Do a tour with a historic tram right through European Capital of Culture 2010 Essen. Our competent tour guide will tell you a lot of interesting stories about coal mining, the city and the Krupp family.
Starting at the city centre with its modern office buildings and the Aalto Theater the tour went northeast where the UNECSO World Heritage Pit Zollverein stands for the town's mining history. The passage will be lined by houses with subsidence damages caused by coal mining. In the new "Weststadt" you will see not only a musical theater but also an old Krupp company apartment block built for 750 unmarried workers.
The journey will be paused at the Dampfbierbrauerei (steam beer brewery) in Borbeck. Now it becomes really cosy. On a brewery visit you'll get to know everything about the art of brewing beer and of course you will also get a chance to taste. Subsequently you may restore yourself by a hefty bratwurst, before the tram brings you back to the starting point.
