Ruhr District Tour 6 Emscher shining
Night light tour in the northern Ruhr district
Passing the once biggest gasometer of Europe, nowadays landmark no. 1 of the city of Oberhausen, the tour leads you along the river Emscher in eastern direction on the so-called "route of landmarks". Some of the unique industrial relics gathered here are turning into magic places at night.
So for example an illuminated object is hovering over the city of Bottrop. A hike on a pit heap will disclose the secret. On top there is the Tetrahedron, a walkable and partly illuminated steal sculpture consisting of 84 pipes with a total weight of 210 tons. The three observation decks are offering a most impressive panorama of the nocturnal Ruhr area.
You will pass the Schurenbach heap crowned with a monumental steel slab on your way to the Academy Mont-Cenis in Herne. On the area of a former coal mine a from within shining glass palace was erected hiding a bit of mediterranean France in its interior.
This tour will be completed by a visit to the coking plant Zollverein, the world heritage site in the north of Essen. Viewing from a blue light axis visitors will experience the gigantic coking plant bathed into mystical red light still leaving the impression of a red-hot industrial sun.
